I don’t remember exactly when I “became” a photographer. I’m still feeling it out even today, and I keep learning new things.

But what I’ve always known and felt is a human instinct that compels me to seek, look closer, and click the shutter.

“Photography is nothing – it’s life that interests me,” said Henri Cartier-Bresson, the godfather of street photography. I love the second part (but the craft of making a beautiful picture excites me too).

What I love about photography, I also find in writing. Much like spirituality, writing has ebbed and flowed throughout my life.

I started my career as a reporter for my Newfoundland hometown’s newspaper, The Packet. That experience opened wide my eyes, taking me beyond my bubble. It taught me how to focus and articulate what I saw, and so journalism remains a foundation of how I craft an attentive style and vision.

With Fruitless Fig, we’ll see how a candid, observant picture can unveil a story; how it traces the places I wander, the people I meet.
